It is generally believed that the injection moulding process in which the wall thickness of moulded plastic parts is less than 1 mm or the flow length to thickness ratio exceeds 100 can be called thin wall injection moulding. In the injection moulding process, thin wall injection moulding tends to produce warpage, deformation, cracks and other problems. Therefore, thin wall injection moulding has higher requirements for the mould design. Compared with ordinary injection moulding product moulds, thin wall injection moulds have the following Features:

• (1) The rigidity and strength requirements of the mould. thin wall injection moulding requires higher injection pressure. Therefore, the rigidity and strength of thin wall injection moulds must be large, and the pressure tolerance must be better. thin wall injection moulds often use thicker templates and more support columns.
• (2) The cooling effect of the mould should be uniform. Compared with ordinary plastic parts, thin wall injection moulded plastic parts are less resistant to residual stress and often have problems such as warping and deformation. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the cooling of the mould to ensure the dimensional stability of the plastic parts.
• (3) Ensure the balance of the pouring system. Since moulding thin wall plastic parts require high gates, large gates should be used, and the thickness of the gate should be greater than the wall thickness. For this reason, thin wall injection moulds often use runner less pouring systems.
• (4) The exhaust performance requirements of the mould. Since the filling time of thin wall injection moulding is shorter than that of ordinary injection moulding, and the injection speed is faster, in order to prevent the ignition of trapped air, thin wall injection moulding puts forward higher requirements on the exhaust performance of the mould.
• (5) Balance requirements of the ejector system. Since the wall thickness and ribs of thin wall plastic parts are thinner than ordinary plastic parts and are more easily damaged, the ejection system has higher requirements during the ejection process, and the ejection force needs to achieve a better balance.
